Police: Gun used in murder-suicide in Rožnov was legally-held private weapon

Police have announced that the gun which was used in the shooting in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm in the south-east of the Czech Republic was a legally-held private weapon and not a service weapon. Police were called on Wednesday to a family home in the town after a 49-year-old man shot his 35-year-old girlfriend and their two small children and then turned the gun on himself. The crime was reported to the police by family members who found the bodies of the parents and two girls, who were four and six years old. Both adults worked as police officers, the Czech News Agency reports.

This is not the first multiple murder in the Vsetín region this year. At the end of April, in the nearby village of Loučka, a 31-year-old man killed his wife and three young children under the age of five in their family home. In June, the man was charged with murder and sent to prison.
