Popular tourist destinations not destroyed by North Bohemia fire

Two popular tourist destinations in an area of North Bohemia hit by wildfires in recent days remain intact, the director of the Ústí nad Labem fire service, Roman Vyskočil, said on Wednesday. However, he said he could not rule out some damage to the Pravčice Gate sandstone formation and nearby Sokolí hnízdo building.

The fire service said on Wednesday that it had managed to get fires in the Hřensko district under control, adding that no further evacuations were planned. Hundreds of fire officers have been deployed to combat blazes that began on Sunday and aircraft from other countries are assisting in the fight.

A spokesperson for the fire service said that winds were hampering their efforts.
