HBO to stop filming Czech television shows amid restructuralisation

American subscription video on demand service HBO Max will not be filming any more Czech television series, news site Aktuálně.cz reported on Tuesday. Meanwhile, some shows, such as the 2019 series The Sleepers, have been removed from the subscription service’s library. Citing the spokeswoman of HBO Europe, the news site writes that the move comes amid an international restructuralisation of the company, whose subscription service HBO Max is being merged with Discovery+ as a consequence of a larger merger of HBO owner WarnerMedia with Discovery.

The move to end production of domestic TV series also includes other European countries with small markets. However, the company still intends to produce series and films in France and in Spain, Aktuálně.cz reports. .

HBO has produced several critically acclaimed and publicly successful series from Czech filmmakers over the past years.
