Prague 10 mayor and deputy dismissed over connections with corruption case
Prague 10 city councillors dismissed the mayor of the Prague 10 district, Renata Chmelová, and her deputy mayor, David Kašpar, at a meeting on Monday, due to their alleged ties to former deputy mayor of Prague Petr Hlubuček, the Czech News Agency reported. Mr. Hlubuček was remanded in custody ten days ago as he was implicated in a huge corruption scandal involving the Prague public transport company DPP.
Ms. Chmelová has denied any wrongdoing or connection to the case. She has said that the real reason for her dismissal is the fact that she appealed against a new zoning plan for a large undeveloped area on the border between the Prague 10, 11 and 15 city districts, which the Prague 10 city council discussed and almost unanimously approved on Monday.
