Prague Deputy Mayor resigns over corruption case

Petr Hlubuček has resigned from his position as deputy mayor of Prague and member of the City Council, Czech News Agency reported on Thursday. Mr. Hlubuček is among 11 people who were accused by police officers from the National Centre for Combatting Organised Crime on Wednesday in connection with the alleged corruption and mismanagement of the Prague public transport company DPP.

The Mayors and Independents Party (STAN) had already suspended his membership, and after a call from the party leadership following a meeting on Wednesday evening, Hlubuček resigned from all party positions, including as STAN candidate for the autumn local elections, where he was in third place in the polls. Hlubuček also resigned from the DPP Supervisory Board.
