Prague to close its refugee centre in Vysočany on 15 June

Prague City Hall will close its centre for Ukrainian refugees in Vysočany on June 15, the city’s mayor, Zdeněk Hřib, announced after a meeting of the municipal crisis staff on Friday. He cited the overburdening of the capital and the lack of a system of relocation to other less crowded regions as reasons for the decision.

The centre will be closed until the government introduces a system of redistribution for refugees so that the burden can be balanced out between the various municipalities of the Czech Republic. Mr Hřib said that Prague is having to cope with up to four times as many refugees as some other regions.
