Police smash people smuggling ring active in Central and Eastern Europe

Police have cracked down on a ring of people smugglers active in Central and Eastern Europe arresting over 200 people and seizing 80 vehicles, the APA news agency reported. Over 100 suspects were arrested in Austria, the rest in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia and Romania. Interpol worked on the case for over a year and investigators believe the crime ring helped more than 36,000 people cross European borders illegally. It is also suspected of having been involved in a shooting incident on the Austrian border and the deaths of two refugees who suffocated in a van.
