Olaf Scholz: Germany to help Czechia replace equipment provided to Ukraine

Germany will assist the Czech Republic in replacing the military equipment provided to Ukraine, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said at a joint press conference with Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala in Berlin on Thursday. According to Mr Scholz, the Czech army will receive Western technology in return for handing over Warsaw Pact-era weapons to Ukraine.

The Czech and German prime ministers also discussed the content of the planned new EU sanctions package against Moscow and Germany’s cooperation in the supply of oil and gas to Czechia. Mr Fiala, who was received in Berlin with military honours, also held talks with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
