Zeman for defence talks with US but against bases in CR

President Miloš Zeman would not support the idea of US soldiers being permanently based in the Czech Republic, Prime Minister Petr Fiala said after a meeting with the head of state on Tuesday evening. However, Mr. Zeman is in favour of talks on a defence treaty between Prague and Washington, the PM said.

The Czech minister of defence, Jana Černochová, said at the weekend she would discuss the possible presence of US soldiers with the country’s defence secretary after Easter. However, she now says the matter is not on the table.
