Government formally declares extension of state of emergency

The Czech government has extended until the end of May a state of emergency intended to help deal with an influx of Ukrainian refugees. Wednesday’s formal move follows a vote in the lower house on Tuesday in which MPs consented to the extension of the legal mechanism.

The government say the state of emergency is needed so that Ukrainian refugees can get accommodation through regional assistance centres. It also allows for the immediate purchase of essentials.
