Antonín Dvořák’s complete piano works rendered by Ivo Kahánek
This Sunday Music Show is dedicated to Antonín Dvořák’s piano works, performed by the outstanding Czech pianist Ivo Kahánek. The recordings you will hear are part of his new collection of four CDs entitled Dvořák: The Complete Piano Works, which includes both his larger cycles and occasional pieces, as well as several little-known works, recorded for the very first time.
Ivo Kahánek has already won acclaim for his recording of Dvořák’s Piano Concerto, where he plays alongside the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra conducted by Czech composer Jakub Hrůša and which won the BBC Music Magazine Concerto Award. His most recent set of solo albums was released by Supraphon in September last year. This is what Ivo Kahánek said about the recording:
“The most difficult thing to cope with was the time pressure, since due to the availability of the hall and the team we had to record five hours of music within a mere three months. The most gratifying aspect was discovering some little-known gems among Dvořák’s numerous piano works and having the opportunity to view the better-known pieces in a new way.”
