Anti-drug coordinator: Pandemic increasing additions of all kinds
The country’s national anti-drug coordinator, Jindřich Vobořil, says the coronavirus pandemic will result in an increase in the number of people suffering from addictions, be it alcohol, gambling or drugs. Mr. Vobořil told Czech Radio that the problem is already manifesting itself and he anticipates an increase in addictions by tens of percent. The main illegal hard drug used by addicts in the Czech Republic is not heroin, but home produced crystal meth. Statistics have already indicated a sharp rise in the number of people who engage in risk drinking, and a steep rise in the number of children who suffer from depression and suicidal tendencies as a result of social isolation.
