Vice-Chair of Mayors and Independents gives up seat in Chamber of Deputies
Jan Farský, the vice-chairman of the government Mayors and Independents party and a member of the Chamber of Deputies, announced on Wednesday that he will give up his seat in the lower-house of Czech Parliament. The decision comes after Farský faced criticism from the opposition as well as government represented parties for accepting a half-year-long study programme in the United States, funded by the prestigious Fulbright Study Programme.
Mr Farský, who won the scholarship for his project titled “How to Transform 250 Years of U.S. Federalism Into a Road Map for the Next 25 Years of the EU”, is now in Oregon in the US. He will resign his mandate at the next meeting of the Chamber of Deputies on February 15. He will be replaced by fellow party member Jarmila Levko, who currently works as the director of the F. X. Šalda Theatre in Liberec.
