Foreign minister: No evacuation of Kiev Czech Embassy yet

The Czech Republic is not for now ordering the evacuation of staff from its embassy in Ukraine due to the threat of a Russian invasion. The country’s foreign minister, Jan Lipavský, relayed the decision to journalists after a meeting of his department’s crisis staff on Tuesday.

Mr. Lipavský appealed to all Czech citizens not to travel to border regions in the east and north of Ukraine. Those who do visit the country should register with a special Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs information system named Drozd, which is used in the case of such incidents as natural disasters or terrorist attacks.

The US has withdrawn the family members of its staff in Kiev and the UK has also taken some of its people out of Ukraine.
