Czech billionaire Karel Janeček to run for president
Czech billionaire and anti-corruption activist Karel Janeček has announced his decision to run for president in the 2023 election. Janeček, a mathematician and philanthropist, said he wanted to contribute to solving the problems of Czech society. In recent months he has made headlines by attacking the government’s Covid measures, saying they are extreme and should be resisted.
Among those who have announced their decision to run for office are Senator Pavel Fischer and the one-time chairman of the NATO Military Committee Petr Pavel. There is speculation that the former prime minister Andrej Babiš will also make a bid for the presidency.
