Covid: 50 pct of Czech cases now Omicron variant, up to 80 pct in big cities

More than 50 percent of new coronavirus cases in the Czech Republic are the Omicron variant, and in many larger cities, the proportion is near 80 percent, the State Health Institute announced on Monday.

A sharp increase in the positive test results is anticipated, with talk of up to 50,000 new infections per day. Meanwhile, the number of Covid cases fell on Monday for the first time in seven days, with 7,336 cases registered, 2,000 fewer than on the same day last week.

The seven-day incidence has also decreased slightly and is currently at 420 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants, according to Ministry of Health data.
