Hockey: Czechia forfeits game vs. Finland at world junior championship
The Czech Republic forfeited Wednesday’s game against Finland at the world junior hockey championships due to a player testing positive for Covid-19. The entire team is now in quarantine.
The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) said in a statement that the Czech team’s quarantine status would be further evaluated to determine whether it can compete in its final preliminary round game.
Czech U-20 national team coach Karel Mlejnek said he felt frustrated and hopeless and doubted that the championship would continue in the summer.
Ahead of the tournament, five others tested positive for coronavirus before the tournament, including two referees, but none of those cases resulted in a forfeit.
