Prosecutor hands MPs file on Babiš case with request to lift his immunity
The Prague state prosecutor’s office handed over a file on a case pertaining to Andrej Babiš to the lower house’s Mandates and Immunity Committee on Tuesday afternoon. The prosecutor is requesting that the Czech prime minister in resignation have his parliamentary immunity lifted again so that he can face prosecution.
Mr. Babiš is suspected of wrongfully acquiring CZK 50 million in European Union funds for a conference centre near Prague known as Stork’s Nest. He denies any wrongdoing.
The ANO leader regained parliamentary immunity after elections two months ago, leading to the suspension of a criminal case against him. MPs will now consider whether to strip him of his immunity again.
