Labour Minister Jana Maláčová confirms candidacy for Social Democrat party chair

Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Jana Maláčová has confirmed her candidacy to head the Social Democrats, which failed to win any seats in the recent parliamentary elections.

The current party chairman, Minister of the Interior Jan Hamáček, announced his resignation on Monday in response to the party’s crushing defeat in October’s general elections.

Maláčová, 40, is currently party vice-chair. A special party conference to appoint new leadership is due to take place on December 10.
