Zeman undergoing treatment that will require some time, says wife
The wife of the Czech president, Miloš Zeman, says that he is undergoing treatment that will require some time. Speaking in front of journalists on Thursday, Ivana Zemanová said speculation about his state of health was at the very least unethical and called for patience with regard to the head of state’s recovery.
Mr. Zeman has been in hospital since Sunday with an unidentified chronic condition and critics say his officials should inform the public about the nature of his ailment.
The 77-year-old has type two diabetes and neuropathy of the feet that has left him wheelchair-bound. His predecessor Vaclav Klaus said that he was also suffering from a liver problem connected to his drinking and smoking lifestyle.
Officials say that Mr. Zeman will convene the first session of the new Chamber of Deputies on November 8.
