Poland: No point continuing to discuss disputed mine with Czechs

The authorities in Poland say there is no reason to continue speaking to Czech officials in connection with a dispute over the Turow mine, which is on the Polish side of their joint frontier. The comment came from a deputy minister of foreign affairs, Marcin Przydacz, on Polish TV. Mr. Przydacz said that the Czechs had no wish to resolve the matter due to internal political reasons.

Poland says it needs the mine to produce energy while the Czech Republic says it is contaminating water on its side of the border.

The two countries had been in negotiations for a week.
