Week of Libraries gets underway around Czechia

The annual Week of Libraries gets underway in the Czech Republic on Monday, with this year’s 25th edition focusing on the theme of sustainability. Hundreds of libraries around the country are holding open days, public readings and workshops, while some are also offering free registration and ‘amnesties’ of charges for late returns.

Library Week is an international event aimed at encouraging more people to read and informing them about the wide range of services public libraries offer in the internet age. The Association of Public Libraries in the Czech Republic also holds the annual competition among readers for Library of the Year.
