Schillerová: Social Democrats’ minimum wage proposal out of question

The minister of finance, ANO appointee Alena Schillerová, says the Czech minimum wage being increased to CZK 18,000 a month from next year is out of the question. Such a rise has been proposed by the junior party in the governing coalition the Social Democrats.

Speaking at a breakfast with business leaders on Tuesday, the minister said the minimum wage had risen under her government.

Ms. Schillerová said a maximum of 150,000 people were on the current minimum salary of CZK 15,200 a month. On top of that there are eight degrees of guaranteed salaries, which is problematic for small firms, she said.
