Covid-19: 588 new cases detected on Tuesday, most on weekday since late May

Czech laboratories detected 588 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday, the largest increase since the end of May, according to Ministry of Health data released today. The reproduction rate is also on the rise, now estimated at 1.48.

Health Minister Adam Vojtěch said on Wednesday that he had expected the situation to worsen after the summer holidays, as children returned to school and restrictions were eased, in particular regarding travel.

The parliamentary health committee is due to discuss the current state of the pandemic situation in the Czech Republic on Wednesday.
