Czechia free of bird flu, according to World Organisation for Animal Health
The World Organisation for Animal Health has awarded the Czech Republic the status of being a country without any cases of bird flu, the Director of the State Veterinary Administration Zbyněk Semerád announced on Wednesday.
The status should help the country’s foreign trade, because several other states will be affected by trade limitations on their bird (including chicken) produce, according to Mr Semerád.
A total of 37 outbreaks of bird flu were declared in the Czech Republic this year. This led to 11 non-EU states limiting their trade with Czechia, including Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong, the Philipines, Mexico and several Eastern European and Arab states. The last outbreak in the Czech Republic was liquidated in June.
