Radio Prague International celebrates 85th anniversary

Tuesday is the 85th anniversary of the first regular broadcast by Radio Prague International, or Radio Prague as it was known then. Trial broadcasts had been carried out in the months leading up to the official launch on August 31, 1936.

The station was initially set up at the initiative of Czechoslovakia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs with a view to promoting the country’s interests internationally and it still receives Ministry funding.

Radio Prague International today produces reports in six languages.
