Czech Army Kabul Embassy team to receive medals
Defence Minister Lubomír Metnar will award service medals to all of the members of the KAMBA (Kabul Embassy) Czech military police team, who helped secure the evacuation of Czech embassy staff and Afghans associated with the country’s mission there.
The KAMBA team was tasked with protecting the Czech ambassador in Kabul and the local embassy team. The commander of the military police detachment decided to evacuate the embassy team and transport diplomats to Kabul airport following reports of Taliban troops advancing on the capital. The decision was made before the local airport became enveloped in chaos, enabling a relatively smooth evacuation. The team also negotiated with Taliban members at a checkpoint in order to enable Afghans, who helped the Czech mission, to reach the airport and board the aircraft.
In total, the team managed to evacuate 130 people from the country.
