Media: Prague court decision on Airbnb income to impact thousands of owners

The Municipal Court in Prague ruled last week that short-term rentals fall under accommodation services and so should be taxed as a regular business activity. Hospodářské noviny reports that this will significantly impact thousands of people renting via platforms such as Airbnb and Booking.com .

The court ruling stemmed from the case of a plaintiff who in March 2020 filed an objection to her short-term rental income via Airbnb being taxed as if she were operating an accommodation business, compelling her to file a corrective tax return.

According to Hospodářské noviny, the court decision will most affect those who rent several flats at once. For landlords, this will have a major impact, for example, in the payment of social and health insurance.
