Czech Republic to evacuate local embassy staff and families from Kabul

As well as the country’s diplomats, the Czech Republic will also evacuate local staff at the Czech Embassy in Afghanistan and their family members. They face the threat of violence from Taliban forces, who are now close to Kabul.

The Czech government will also relocate interpreters who worked with the Czech Army and who have applied for such a move, Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, Foreign Minister Jakub Kulhánek and Defence Minister Lubomír Metnar said in a new release following a special session of the State Security Council on Saturday evening.

Mr. Kulhánek had earlier said that two Czech diplomats in Afghanistan had been withdrawn to Kabul airport. Evacuation flights are set to take place in the coming days.
