German president to visit Czech Republic in August
The President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier will visit the Czech Republic at the end of August, Czech Television reported on Monday citing the president’s spokeswoman. The exact date and programme of the trip has not been disclosed as of yet. Nevertheless, it is expected that one of the main parts of the visit will be a meeting with Czech President Miloš Zeman.
Based on letters published on the website of Prague Castle, the Czech president will likely use the opportunity to thank Germany for its solidarity during the coronavirus pandemic. Germany offered help to Czechia when its health system was overwhelmed last year by COVID-19 patients requiring hospitalisation.
Steinmeier was considering a visit to the Czech Republic already last year, but the trip had to be scrapped due to the coronavirus pandemic.
