Government approves aid program for Afghan interpreters

The Czech government has approved an aid program for Afghan interpreters who worked with the Czech Army during its mission in Afghanistan. The program envisages financial assistance and the possibility of asylum for the interpreters and their families. Prime Minister Andrej Babiš said after Friday’s cabinet session that the aid would be extended immediately. He added that In view of the fact that the steps debated are confidential he could not reveal further details. According to an unnamed source from the Czech security community quoted by news site Lidovky.cz, the program counts on providing help for 20 to 30 persons, but it is uncertain whether they would consider settling in the Czech Republic which has virtually no local Afghan community.
