Three Czech spas could be placed on UNESCO heritage list
Saturday will see UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee discuss proposals for new additions to its heritage list. Among them is the “Great Spas of Europe” proposal, which would see 11 of Europe’s major spa towns become UNESCO sites. Included among them are the Czech spa towns of Karlovy Vary, Mariánské Lázně and Františkovy Lázně.
The Famous Spas of Europe nomination was put forward by the consultative organization ICOMOS (International Council of Monuments and Sites). Apart from the three Czech cities, spa towns from Germany, Austria, Italy, Belgium, France and Great Britain are also on the list.
