Covid-19: Delta variant constitutes 70-80 pct of infections in Czechia

The Delta variant of the coronavirus constitutes between 70 to 80 percent of all infections in the Czech Republic, according to the Institute of Health Information and Statistics, based on data obtained during the last two weeks.

The British mutation, which was spreading in the Czech Republic mainly at the beginning of the year, now accounts for around 10 percent of Covid-19 cases. There have been only isolated cases of the South African and Brazilian variants.

Laboratories have also detected a case of the new Delta Plus variant, in the South Moravian region. Scientists have not yet reported on the characteristics of this mutation, so it is unclear if it is more contagious or marked by more severe symptoms.
