Czech authorities warn of uptick in Covid-19 spread
After steadily declining for nearly three months, the number of new coronavirus infections is increasing again in the Czech Republic. For the first time since mid-April, the reproduction number is above 1, the Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday.
The seven-day incidence level has risen slightly, from 6.7 to 7.2 new infections per 100,000 population. A total of 160 new cases were registered on Tuesday, 48 more than a week ago. Just over a third of the cases were reported in Prague.
Meanwhile, although some 120 cases of the Delta variant of Covid-19 had been confirmed in the Czech Republic as of Tuesday, the so-called British variant is still dominant in this country.
