Tennis: Karolína Muchová defeats Naomi Osaka in Madrid

Karolína Muchová beat world number two Naomi Osaka of Japan in the second round of the Mutua Madrid Open on Sunday in three sets (6:4, 3:6, 6:1) and has advanced to round 16.

It is the third time in her career that Muchová, ranked no. 20 coming into the match against Osaka, has beaten a top-five player and second this season. She next faces Maria Sakkari of Greece.

Petra Kvitová reached the eighth finals on Saturday after defeating Angelique Kerber (6:4, 7:5). Karolína Plíšková, however, lost on Sunday in the second round against Anastassija Pawljutschenkowa (0:6 and 5:7) and is out of the tournament.
