“Brazil” mutation detected in Czech Republic not the current highly aggressive variant
The “Brazil” mutation which was first detected in the country last week is not the highly aggressive variant of Covid-19 currently sweeping through Brazil, but the older, much less contagious P2 variant detected in the country last year, according to the Czech National Reference Laboratory which sequenced the two samples. The laboratory also said that the “British” variant, which has been dominant in the country for several months, is now on the wane.
The Czech Republic registered 3,843 news cases of Covid-19 on Monday, according to data released by the Ministry of Health. However the reproduction number, which is considered key to assessing the state of the epidemic in the country, has once again crossed the critical one point mark and is now at 1.05.
