Kupka painting sells for stunning GBP 7.5 million in London
An abstract painting by Czech artist František Kupka has sold for over GBP 7.5 million (CZK 231 million) in auction at Sotheby’s in London. The sum received for Le Jaillissement II – an piece dating to the early 1920s – far exceeded expectations that it might fetch up to GBP 2.5 million.
The Czech News Agency reports that, according to available information, the price received for Le Jaillissement II is the highest amount a Czech painting has gone for at auction in recent decades.
