European Commission sends EUR 1 billion to Czechia through SURE programme
The European Commission sent the Czech Republic EUR 1 billion (CZK 26 billion) on Tuesday. The money, raised through bonds, comes from the EU’s instrument for temporary Support to mitigate Unemployment Risks in an Emergency, better known under the abbreviation SURE.
It is the first such loan from the SURE programme, aimed at helping member states maintain the financial means to fight the negative economic and social consequences of the coronavirus pandemic. Apart from the Czech Republic, Spain, Croatia, Italy, Lithuania, Malta and Slovakia also received SURE support.
