Shot putter Staněk wins first major title at European Indoor Championships

Czech shot putter Tomáš Staněk has won his first major title, topping the podium at the European Indoor Athletics Championships in Poland’s Torun on Friday evening.

Staněk, who is 29, secured victory with a final throw of 21.62 metres that saw him jump from fourth to first.

Czech hurdler Pavel Maslák failed to win a fourth European indoor title after not making it into the final.
