Czech hospitals see record number of people in critical condition

The number of new Covid-19 cases in the Czech Republic exceeded 10,000 for the second day in a row on Wednesday. Some 10,813 people tested positive for coronavirus, which is nearly 1,300 more than on the same day last week.

The number of people hospitalized with Covid has reached nearly 6,200, with 1,227 of them in serious condition. That is the highest figure since the pandemic hit the country, suggest the Ministry of Health data. On Thursday morning, there were only 148 intensive care beds for Covid-19 patients available in the whole of the country.

The total number of known cases of the virus since the start of March stands at over 1.1 million. To date 18.739 people have died with Covid-19 and 996,000 have recovered from the disease.
