Charter 77 signatory, former university rector Jan Sokol dies aged 84
The philosopher, educator and former politician Jan Sokol has died at the age of 84. In the early years after the Velvet Revolution, the Charter 77 signatory severed as an MP and as a minister of education.
Mr Sokol also helped establish the Faculty of Humanities at Charles University, became a rector and ran for president. In the later years of his life, he was a prolific contributor to Wikipedia, where he added his expertise to entries on a range of topics.
