Covid epidemic worsening; risk index at 77
Data released by the Ministry of Health indicate that the coronavirus epidemic in the Czech Republic is worsening.
The number of newly registered Covid cases on Saturday reached 5,118, roughly 300 more than on the same day a week ago.
The risk index rose from 73 on Friday to 77, driven by the high number of infected over the past fortnight.
The rise in infections is ascribed to the more contagious “British” mutation of the virus which now appears to be dominant in some regions.
Three districts are under lockdown because of a high number of infected.
