Constitutional Court rejects petition against set term of general elections

The Constitutional Court has rejected a petition by a group of senators calling for it to annul the president's decision on the date of elections to the Chamber of Deputies. The elections are scheduled for October 8 and 9, and the term remains valid.

The senators who filed the complaint argued that President Zeman announced the election date too far in advance which may negatively affect the election campaign.

According to unconfirmed information, cited by the daily Pravo, the Court also ruled on a complaint about an article of the election law which senators claim discriminates against smaller parties and groupings.

The verdict is to be announced on Wednesday morning.
