Over 9,000 new Covid cases recorded, reproduction number climbs slightly

Some 9,144 new cases of Covid-19 were registered in the Czech Republic on Tuesday. This was around 2,200 more than on Monday but roughly 500 fewer than Tuesday last week. There are just over 6,000 people in hospital with the virus, with nearly 1,000 in a critical condition.

The coronavirus reproduction number is now 0.94, a slight worsening of the figure seen on Tuesday.

The national Covid risk index stood at 68 points on Wednesday, meaning it has been in the bracket for level four of five levels for a fortnight. However, the government will not move from the current level five restrictions until fewer the number hospitalised falls below 3,000.
