Petříček: Czechia supports EU call for rule of law in Hong Kong after protestors arrested
The Czech Republic supports the EU call on China to release pro-democracy protestors arrested in Hong Kong, Foreign Minister Tomáš Petříček stated on Friday. In what is seen as the hardest crackdown by China yet on the opposition, 53 protestors were arrested in Hong Kong on Wendesday on the charge of endangering state security.
On Thursday, the EU called for the immediate release of those arrested and urged the local authorities to respect rule of law, human rights and the ‘One Country, Two Systems’ principle.
The Chinese Embassy in Prague has since called on other states to respect its internal affairs and sovereignty.
