Social Democrats to negotiate with other Parliamentary parties in order to sink new tax legislation
The government Social Democrats have announced they will be negotiating with other parties opposed to the package of new tax reforms proposed by their coalition partner ANO, the Czech News Agency reported on Wednesday citing party leader Jan Hamáček. The tax bill includes the cancellation of the so-call “super-gross wage”, which would increase net salaries at the expense of state income.
The legislation has already passed through Parliament, but the Social Democrats are hoping to stall it after President Miloš Zeman refused to either approve or veto the bill. They argue that the wording in the president’s signed statement may have actually vetoed the law. If they were to gather sufficient support in the lower-house, it could mean that the president’s letter would be sent to the Constitutional Court for legal analysis.
