Covid-19 vaccinations start in Ostrava after logistics snag in Belgium

Vaccination against the coronavirus that began on Sunday continues in Prague and Brno, the largest cities in the Czech Republic, and began on Tuesday in Ostrava, following a delivery delay.

Over the first two days, 2,521 people received the vaccine in Prague, as did several hundred in Brno. The first to receive the vaccine in Ostrava are the employees of the University Hospital there. In the Moravian-Silesian region, currently the hardest hit by Covid-19, some 17,000 healthcare professionals and 10,000 social service workers are set to be vaccinated first.

Ostrava hospitals had planned to start the process on Monday. But, as in other EU countries, delivery was delayed due to a logistics problem at the Pfizer plant in Belgium. Currently, in Ostrava they are administering doses sent from Brno.
