Oxford University Press publishes book on Terezín ghetto by Czech historian
Oxford University Press has published a book by the Czech historian Anna Hájková on the functioning of the Terezín ghetto during WWII.
The publication The Last Ghetto was written by Hájková using documents from 99 archives on three continents. It deals with the cultural, social, and gender organization of the ghetto and, according to the author, also offers a glimpse into the minds of people destined for transport to Nazi extermination camps.
The name of the publication refers to the fact that Terezín was liberated on the night of May 8-9, 1945, as the last Jewish ghetto in Europe. Hájkova works at the British University of Warwick.
