Yet another suspected pollutant found in Bečva River

Another suspected pollutant has been found in the Bečva River, where cyanide poisoning this September killed all living organisms along a 40-km stretch, including over 32,000 tons of fish.

Mayor Robert Stržínek said foam has formed on the water surface, as when excessive traces of nickel were identified some weeks after the cyanide poisoning in Moravia.

The Environment Ministry had commissioned an ecological survey of the Bečva River, the site of the country’s worst environmental disaster in a decade.
