ČEZ to cooperate with Rolls Royce on development of small modular reactors

ČEZ, the largest energy conglomerate in Central Europe which is majority owned by the Czech government, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore the potential for compact nuclear power stations with British company Rolls-Royce. The stations, known as small modular reactors (SMR), are to be built in the Czech Republic, the two companies announced on Monday.

Rolls-Royce leads the United Kingdom’s SMR Consortium which is designing this type of low-cost nuclear power station. The British company says that its standardised, factory-made components and advanced manufacturing processes push down costs and allow rapid assembly.
